You are invited to attend the annual Irma Ruebling Distinguished
Speaker Series lecture, presented by Saint Louis University’s Program in
Physical Therapy, on Thursday, March 21 at 5:30 p.m. This year we are fortunate
to have Dr. Edelle Field-Fote, professor
for the departments of physical therapy and neurological surgery at the
University of Miami Miller School of Medicine discussing "Up
to Standard: aligning practice, research, and the ideals of our
profession ”.
Dr. Field-Fote obtained her bachelor’s in physical therapy and her master’s in epidemiology/ industrial engineering from the University of Miami. She received her doctorate in movement science from Washington University in St. Louis, where her doctoral studies investigated motor control in an animal model of spinal cord injury. She completed postdoctoral training at the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, where she currently is the director of the Neuromotor Rehabilitation Research Laboratory. The efforts of her laboratory are directed at increasing our understanding of the neural control of movement, motor learning, and the influence of afferent inputs to improve function, promote neuroplasticity, and develop advanced rehabilitation strategies for people with spinal cord injury and other disorders of the central nervous system. Dr. Field-Fote is the editor of the textbook Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation (FA Davis Publishers, 2009), and her studies have been published in a range of peer-reviewed journals. She currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neurologic Physical Therapy and as a Trustee of the Foundation for Physical Therapy.
